In 1891, veterinary doctor Alexander John Chandler bought 80 acres of land from the U.S. government southeast of Phoenix in the Salt River Valley. By 1900, he owned an 18,000-acre ranch in the area, which he then subdivided and sold as “Chandler Ranch” parcels – and the rest, as they say, is history.
